ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)-- Lil Musial, the wife of baseball legend Stan Musial has died at the age of 91.

The couple had been married for almost 72 years and Stan was by her side, holding her hand as she passed away.

Because she was married to Stan Musial, Lil Musial was a celebrity herself, and very special to a Marthasville woman, even though they met only once in 1959.

"Now the kids watch and say who is that old man and we are quick to tell them that was a star in our day," said Wilma Zeh, holding a Stan Musial scrapbook she started when she was in High School.

And even though her album is dog eared and fading, Wilma Zeh's memory of a very special day in 1959 are still colorful and clear.

Wilma and two girlfriends took the train to St. Louis from Washington, Missouri to take in a double header at old Busch Stadium, on Grand Avenue.

"After the game we were going to wait for the players to come out and a bus pulled up for the Giants. So we go get several Giants autographs and then lo and behold we saw a white Cadillac if my memory serves me right and somehow we knew that just had to be Mrs. Musial," Zeh said. "So we went over and she graciously talked to us and autographed our scorecard for that day and we were just thrilled she was so pleasant to us and I thought of that many times. I am not sure how many professional players wives would do that, but she did and that really made our day."

Zeh eventually got Stan`s autograph as well, but it's her memory of those few moments with Mrs. Musial she is remembering today.

"I think the fans at least from our era realize what an important part she was supporting him," she said.
