(KPLR) - When author Tom Wolfed wrote about the original seven mercury astronauts in his book "The Right Stuff" he quoted John Glenn about flying into space. Remember, this was back when America’s rockets were just as likely to blow up on the pad as achieving orbit. Wolfe quoted Glenn as saying; it takes a special kind of man to volunteer for a suicide mission, especially when it's on TV.

John Glenn, meet Zachary Wyatt. Zachary Wyatt is a Missouri State Representative serving in Jefferson City. He's an air force veteran. He's a republican. And he's gay. We found out that last bit yesterday, when Representative Wyatt spoke at a Jeff City news conference to oppose a proposal to outlaw the discussion of homosexuality in Missouri’s schools unless it’s in science class.

Representative Wyatt is from Adair County in northern Missouri. He was free to come out not because voters in his district are open-minded and certainly not because his political party is particularly tolerant. He spoke out because he doesn't have to run for re-election. He's going to use the GI bill to get a degree in Marine Biology from the University of Hawaii.

I'm Charles Jaco and that's Jacology.
