ST. LOUIS, MO. (KPLR) - I brought my chair to the river because one state senator has an idea that has something to do with the water. He apparently isn't so fond of the phrase “The Show Me State”. Some Missourians wear it as a badge of honor.
We won't be fooled easily. We need to see proof before we believe something.
Well not everyone sees it that way. Some say the old Show Me State phrase was given to Missouri gold miners who had a reputation for getting lost in the old west easily.
They had to be shown where to go.
So lawmakers are asking the state to market itself with a different label, something like The Great River State.
It makes sense. It might help swing a few extra tourism dollars our way at a time when we could use every penny.
The only problem is convincing the Show Me State it's a good idea.
