Tanker Truck Hauling Alcohol Overturns, Shuts Down Highway

TROY, MO (KTVI) - Lanes of Highway 61 near Troy, Missouri remain shut down as crews try to clean up the mess left behind by a tanker truck accident. Emergency crews shut down a two-mile stretch of highway in Lincoln County.

A tanker truck hauling 8,000 gallons of denatured alcohol overturned on Highway 61 just north of Troy, Missouri and just south of Old Alexandria.  Authorities say the driver had to be cut from the wreckage and airlifted to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.

Crews are still working in the area. Authorities say another tanker had to be brought in to remove the highly flammable alcohol.
