Bernthal-The Way It Oughta Be: Warning Sirens

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. (KPLR11)-I'm lucky to live in an area where there are warning sirens.  Some of the more rural don't have them because they're just not cost effective.  What I don't understand is why these sirens in my neighborhood are not any louder.  I'm told they're not designed to be heard inside.

That's one reason our weather folks encourage everyone to buy a weather radio.

When I ask St. Louis County why the warning system is not designed to be loud enough to be heard inside ... They tell me that was never the intention behind this system.

Well, why not?  If we have the sirens in place, we should be able to make them loud enough to save lives.
