The floor of the Edward Jones Dome is being transformed into a huge mass of dirt! Some 500 truckloads of dirt started being dumped on the dome floor Tuesday for Saturday’s Monster Energy Supercross race.

That’s a total of one and a half million pounds of dirt!

Dozens of riders will take to the Jones Dome floor on Saturday. Organizers say preparing for the race is a major process.

First they lay the dirt base, and then they build the hills for the track.

‘It takes s a lot of planning. We start in the summer months. As soon as we`re done with the series in May we`ll start building the next series in June for next year,’ said Supercross event manager Tim Phend.

He added, ‘We look forward to coming into St. Louis and putting on a big show. Every city we come into we just want to make the fans happy and put on a big show.’

St. Louis is the ninth stop in the 17 race series.

This is the 16th annual Supercross race in St. Louis.
