Robbers hit 4th area jewelry store in two weeks

CLAYTON, Mo. - Another jewelry store was robbed Thursday, making it the fourth to happen in the metro area in the last two weeks.

Police have video of the suspect inside the diamond shop on Central in downtown Clayton.

Investigators said the store was open when the man walked in. He was looking at items in a case and then showed a gun to employees.

This all happened around 10 a.m. Thursday at The Diamond Shop, located at 12 N. Central.

No one was hurt during the robbery.

Two days ago, burglars hit another family-owned jewelry store, Kessler Mroz Jewelers, near 8th and Olive in downtown St. Louis.

A week before that on Tuesday, Creve Coeur police said suspects broke into Genovese Jewelers on Olive and made off with an undetermined amount of merchandise.

The day before, suspects broke into Vincent's Jewelers.

Police said the motive behind Thursday’s robbery doesn’t seem to fit with the previous heists.

“We’re looking at the other incidents that have occurred in the area, but we have no knowledge that any of this is linked together,” said Lieutenant Al Thuet, Clayton Police Department.

“It’s shocking to think it can happen just like that on a rainy day in the middle the day in front of so many people,” says Harry Petty, a Clayton resident.

Police described the suspect as a man in 30s to 40s, about 5'10” tall, and wearing a Chicago Bulls hat and a Michael Kors backpack.
