ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KPLR) – Frightening moments in St. Charles County after a school bus and a dump truck collided Tuesday morning, sending a student and two adults to the hospital.
Missouri Highway Patrol Sergeant Al Nothum said the injuries appear to be minor; nothing too serious.
The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. on Highway DD near Schwede Road in the New Melle area. Sgt. Nothum said the school bus was trying to turn onto Highway DD from Schwede Road when it pulled in front of the dump truck failing to yield.
The dump truck, which was going north on Highway DD, tried to swerve but hit the bus, then lost control and rolled onto its side into a ditch.
The school bus was operating for the Francis Howell School District. A district spokesperson said the bus was just beginning its route and was on its way to Francis Howell Middle School.
There was one student on the bus and the driver. Both of those people and the dump truck operator all went to the hospital to be checked out, but everyone appears to be okay.
The dump truck was carrying rock which spilled all over Highway DD. Clean-up crews have had their hands full trying to get the area cleaned up.
Highway DD was shut down in the crash area for a while that morning.
