ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Do you want a patriotic gift that also benefits several area charities? Over half of the flags planted on Art Hill this fall to commemorate the 15th anniversary of 9/11 are available. You can get them at 1114 South Brentwood across from the Galleria, along with other memorabilia from November 28 to December 23rd, 2016. The cost? A $60 donation that will benefit military and veteran-related organizations.
Each of the 7,000 American flags represents an American military member killed while fighting the war on terror. The flag comes with a photo of the fallen hero and his or her dog tags. A group called Flags of Valor put together this project.
In addition to the flags, photos of the 9/11 remembrance and the book “Under One Flag” are available for a donation. There are several ways to take the flag home. You can have the flag taken off the pole and folded with the dog tag and photo on it. It can also be left on the 10-foot pole. The pole can be cut in half and reassembled with a connector for easy transport in any car.
The charities benefiting from the donations include the <a href="http://www.semperfifund.org" target="_blank">Semper Fi Fund</a>, <a href="http://www.missourimilitary.org" target="_blank">Missouri Military Memorial Foundation</a>,<a href="http://www.gslhonorflight.org" target="_blank"> Greater St. Louis Honor Flight </a>and the <a href="http://www.buildwarriors.org" target="_blank">St. Louis Military Officer Support Foundation</a>.
