Family says suspect in St. Louis police officer shooting was stressed and depressed

ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – Their loved one was shot and killed by police after St. Louis Metropolitan Police determined he shot one of their officers. George P. Bush III is also a suspect in a string of violent and deadly crimes in St. Louis County.

“He wanted to do good for himself,” said Courtney Jones, Bush’s brother.

Jones said his brother was stressed and depressed.  He claims Bush was not a gangster.

“George was a good person.  It’s just the lifestyle that got him into the way he was,” said Jamal Gale, Bush’s brother.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said his department is analyzing evidence in an attempt to determine whether Bush was connected to a string of violent crimes.  Those crimes include a string of carjackings and deadly shootings.

“If we have the ability to identify him as a party to these other crimes that’s going to assist us in perhaps if anybody else is involved,” said Belmar.  He added that closing those cases could also give closure to victims.

Some 3rd grade students from St. Gabriel hope to boost the spirits of one of those victims.  Students made cards for the wounded officer wishing him a speedy recovery.

One of the cards read, “Hi, I heard the bad news.  It seems very painful.  I hope you get well soon.  You need love.  Be Happy.  Get well soon.”

Students also collected some food items and were bundling care packages they plan to deliver to police officers soon.
