WASHINGTON, MO (KPLR) – Police in Washington, Missouri are investigating after multiple vehicle windows were shot out Sunday overnight. The vehicles that were hit were located throughout downtown Washington, between Macarthur Street and Clay Street.
"I just came out to go out and get a paper and I noticed the window was shattered" said Washington resident Dan Crider. "Then I started looking out at my neighbors and two of those were shattered as well" he said.
Police say nearly 30 vehicles were damaged overnight by having their windows shot out, apparently by a BB gun.
"Of course it makes you mad" said Crider. "Your window's shot out and you’re going to have to go through a lot of time and trouble to get it fixed" he said.
Police don't have any information about who is responsible, but Washington residents say this isn't the first time this has happened.
"Teenagers, you know thinking their having a good time shooting glass out but it causes a lot of grief for everybody" said Crider. "I don’t know how much that’s going to cost but I would say $200- $500 for every window that’s been shot out so it gets really expensive" he said.
"It’s disrespectful and very frustrating that you have to go out and take time to do this and fix this" said Connie Gildehaus whose father had his windows shot out overnight. "It’s not going to be very enjoyable for him to get it fixed. I’m sure it’s going to go through his insurance company but you know" she said.
Police are asking any residents or businesses that may have video surveillance systems to check them for any suspicious information. Those with damage are also asked to report the damage to police at (636) 390-1050.
