ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - We are winding down from summer exercise to fall. Dr. Mike Azzam, orthopedic surgeon at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton offers tips on how to know a new routine has caused injury that needs to be evaluated.
Dr. Azzam says get in shape before you start a new sport. Start with low impact exercise such as biking or an elliptical machine. And, listen to your body. Muscle soreness or stiffness is to be expected with a new routine. But, if ice and anti-inflammatory medicines do not resolve muscle aches and pains after a few weeks, you need to consult an orthopedic surgeon.
