ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – Just before 7:00 Tuesday night, family and friends were let into the south city home where earlier in the day a gruesome discovery led to a large police presence on Pennsylvania Avenue.

"Neighbors and friends discovered a male victim and a female victim in the 4500 block of Pennsylvania" said Captain Mary Warnecke with the St. Louis Police Department.  "It appears both had been shot, they remained here on the scene and homicide detectives are taking over the investigation" Warnecke said.

Family and friends identify the victims as Taylor Lane and Nathan Dieckmann.  Police have yet to confirm those identities, only giving vague victim descriptions.

"Our victims are a white female early 20’s and a white male in what appears to be his early 30’s" Warnecke said.

Police say it is very early in their double homicide investigation, but do believe this was a targeted attack.

"We think these two individuals-this home-these two were the targeted individuals this was inside of a home" Warnecke said.  "This was not street violence" she said.

Police don't know when the shooting happened and would not speculate on how long the victim's bodies may have been inside of the house.  Warnecke is asking anyone with information that could help police in the investigation to call police or CrimeStoppers.
