8-year-old says police are shooting too many people

ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - A photo from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch captured the image of 8-year-old J’Vonte Jones recording St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Sam Dotson.  Jones was standing at the scene of a police shooting Sunday, and was trying to understand why police shot someone.

Police say a 14-year-old teen was shot by police after he ran and fired a shot at police.  Police say they were trying to question him about a carjacking.  The shooting happened Sunday morning near the 5000 block of Beacon.

We talked with Jones Monday.  He was at the shooting scene with his older brother and their mother Sunday.

“I feel that it was my son showing he was kind of fearless,” said Crystal Brown, J’Vonte’s mother.  “He’s not afraid to stand up.  He wanted to know why.”

Jones said he recorded Chief Sam Dotson because he feels too many people are being shot by police.  His brother J’Corey Jones agrees.  The entire family believes more training for police officers would help
