Community steps up to help Good Samaritan gruesomely beaten in Gravois Park

ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – A GoFundMe page set up in his name, shows the first images of Rob Ludwig's injuries after the Good Samaritan was beaten Sunday night in Gravois Park. According to police, Ludwig was beaten as he and his girlfriend tried to intervene after seeing a teenage girl being harassed by a group of people on Virginia Avenue.

"It’s hard processing an event like this happening in a neighborhood like this or just anywhere in general" said Jeff Koch, Commissioner of the St. Louis Big Balls Kickball League.  "With all of the negative that has been going on, going through the news and with all of the positivity that people are trying to promote and do it’s hard to believe that things are still happening negatively in the area" he said.

After hearing about the beating and learning about Ludwig's GoFundMe page, the kickball league stepped up to the plate in a big way to help a neighbor in need.

"St. Louis Big Balls league and our owner Ted decided to take it upon himself to say for the next one thousand dollars raised I’ll go ahead and match that as well on behalf of the St. Louis Big Balls Kickball League" said Koch.

"The St. Louis Big Balls Kickball league loves to be a part of the community... so anything we can do to promote the area itself and to be neighborly so to speak to everybody around" Koch said.

Ludwig's GoFundMe page has raised more than $12,000.  Donations of all amounts are coming in from those who know Ludwig and those who don't. Thousands of good deeds, for the Good Samaritan who put his life on the line to help save another.

"We just want to step up and make sure everybody does what they can to promote any type of camaraderie, positivity, just among everybody around" said Koch.

In an update posted to Ludwig's GoFundMe page, Ludwig has pledged to donate some of the money raised for him back to the community to help improve it.

Police don't have anyone in custody.
