Candidates for Missouri governor trade jabs during Missouri Press Association forum

BRANSON, MO (KTVI) - There were some sharp exchanges Friday in Branson as all five candidates for Missouri governor appeared on the same platform during a forum sponsored by the Missouri Press Association.

The event is not a debate in the traditional format, but nevertheless there were plenty of sharp exchanges particularly between Democrat Chris Koster and Republican Eric Greitens.  Libertarian Cisse Spragins, Independent Lester Turilli Jr., and Green Party candidate Don Fitz were also on hand.

Missouri publishers and editors traditionally invite all the nominees on the ballot, not just those from the two larger political parties. Questions ran the gamut from right to work to a law permitting discrimination based on sexual orientation, but the fireworks came between Greitens and Koster  over who is better qualified to run the state.

Candidates in Missouri's U.S. Senate race also had a chance to speak at Friday’s event, including incumbent Roy Blunt, a Republican, Democrat Jason Kander, Libertarian Jonathan Dine, and Constituion Party candidate Fred Ryman.
