Central West End residents feel relief after arrest made in 3 violent crimes

ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – The Central West End of St. Louis is breathing a sigh of relief Monday night. Police over the weekend made arrest in three separate violent crimes in the Central West End.

All of these crimes took place just about a week ago.  People who live in the area are happy to see how quickly police were able to make arrests.

Police say 18-year-old Xavier Perkins has been charged with murder and attempted robbery in the death of 54-year-old Monica Shaw on September 12th.

According to court documents Perkins and a few other friends from O’Fallon, Missouri were in the central west end looking to buy marijuana.

One juvenile that was with the group told police he thought Perkins and another person were getting out of the car to buy drugs when he saw Perkins point a handgun at a woman on the sidewalk.  She refused to turn over her property and Perkins shot Shaw.

Just days before a rape rattled residents in the Central West End.

Police have charged 26-year-old Jared Hurst with two counts of rape, kidnapping, sodomy, .burglary and theft.  Court documents say on September 10th, Hurst entered the woman`s home through a window, raped her and threatened to kill her if she left the bedroom.

Police were able to use DNA to link hurt to the crime.

Police have also arrested two 19-year-old black males in connection with the homicide of Timothy Grice.

Grice was sitting in his parked cab when he was shot and killed September 14th.

Neighbors say it comforting police have been able to quickly track down the people who may be responsible for these crimes.

Police have not charged to two men arrested in connection with Grice.
