FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO (KPLR) - Two Good Samaritans stopped a man accused of stealing a shotgun and an ATV. Sheriff Gary Toelke tells FOX 2 that the men captured the criminal after he crashed through a work zone Tuesday afternoon. The entire incident was caught on video.

Police say that Leslie Rector, 21, stole an ATV and a shotgun from his father's Franklin County home. He is accused of being involved in a domestic dispute at the home located  in the 1000 block of Krenning Road between Union and Beaufort on September 13th. He caused extensive damage before leaving with the ATV and shotgun.

At around 3pm, that same afternoon, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a call saying there was a man on a green ATV in Lonedell, MO.  He had been in an accident involving a MODOT crew on Hwy 30.  Police say Rector sped through a Missouri Department of Transportation work-zone. He came close to striking a worker and knocking over several warning cones.

Two men in a truck with a dashcam started following the man. They caught up with him after the ATV got stuck in a ditch. They took his shotgun and then wrestled him off of the ATV. They detained him with Mule tape until police officers arrived.

Rector is being held in the county jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond. He is facing several charges including a parole violation, vehicle tampering and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
