ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KPLR) - Two people were taken into custody Thursday afternoon in connection with a carjacking and kidnapping in Vinita Terrace.

The carjacking happened shortly before 8 a.m. near the Mobil gas station on Page Avenue near Hanley Road.

Police said the mother went into the gas station while her kids were inside the car, a four-door white BMW. The vehicle was left running. An unidentified man came out of the gas station before the mother, got into the vehicle, and took off with the kids.

The children, ages two and four, were found walking Fairham Avenue in University City a short time later. Authorities said the children were safe and in good condition.

"That is your worst nightmare. We thank God that everything turned out well. That they are okay. They could have been harmed," said Lucy Davis, the children’s grandmother. "You impact families everywhere when you do something like this. The bus line is right over there. You could have taken the bus."

Around 2:20 p.m., police stopped a vehicle matching the description of the stolen BMW near the intersection of Kienlen and Wells. Two men were in the car, one of whom matched the description of the suspect.

Both were apprehended.
