Illinois teen arrested on terrorism charges

EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KTVI) - A Godfrey man faces terrorism charges after police say he planned to carry out attacks on two venues in the area.

Keaun Cook, 18, was arrested for supplying materials to support terrorism and making a terrorist threat. Cook was arrested after someone notified authorities that he was planning attacks on one or more venues in Madison County.

Police arrested Cook in the 1300 block of Sir Galahad Lane in Godfrey on August 24th.  Sheriff's deputies developed evidence linking  him to possible regional terrorist threats after meeting with his family members.

Evidence collected by investigators show communication with a terrorist organization.  He believed he was in contact with individuals capable of planning a mass casualty attack.   The Sheriff's Department will not share what organization it is at this time.

Potential targets and local law enforcement agencies were contacted immediately to provide security.  They say that no one is at risk.

Cook is in custody at the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville, Illinois.  His bond is set at $150,000.
