Memorial grows for toddlers killed in north St. Louis crash

ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) -  Police are investigating a two vehicle crash Monday night that claimed the lives of two toddlers. A memorial is already growing at the scene of the accident.

Teddy bears and flowers mark the site at Hanley road and University Place drive neat the University of Missouri St. Louis. A car was struck by a SUV around 9pm Monday. Police say two children in the car were ejected and did not survive.

Investigators say the SUV struck the car as the driver attempted make a left turn onto University Place. A 19-year-old man was driving the SUV. A 21-year-old woman was driving the sedan, traveling with a 3-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl. Investigators say both children were ejected. They've been identified as Kameron and Kaylee Johnson.

A driver who witnessed the crash stopped his vehicle and got out and performed CPR on the 2 year old girl. Both children and the female driver were rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

St. Louis County Police Say they are very early in the investigation. They sat there are still a lot of details they do not know yet like the speed of the drivers or whether the children were in safety seats. Accident reconstruction is still working the case.

The teenager driving the SUV was also taken to the hospital. At this time we do not know the conditions of either driver.

Friends of the family have set up a GoFundMe account in the name of Kaylee and Kameron to help with funeral expenses.
