ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A terrifying and violent incident happened on Interstate 55 early Friday morning. Shots were fired at a car carrying a 2-year-old boy, his aunt and a man. They were driving near the Anheuser-Busch Brewery at around 1am. The woman was killed, the man injured, and the toddler survived.
The driver of the car being shot at turned around on I-55 and drove in the wrong direction. They went to a nearby gas station for help. Sigaria Shanklin, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. She suffered a gunshot wound to her head. Her sister’s boyfriend, also 25-years-old, was wounded in the side and leg. At last report, he was in critical but stable condition. The little boy was not injured.
Police said the suspect was driving a grey sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry. The interstate was closed for a short time following the deadly shooting.
Shanklin lived in a small south city apartment building. Her neighbors were stunned by the death of the young woman.
“I couldn’t believe it just really hard to believe I’m still in shock really,” said neighbor June McMullan.
At this point police do not have any suspects. Shanklin’s family was just too devastated to talk about their loved one.
