ST. CHARLES, MO (KPLR) - With extreme heat and high humidity expected this week in the St. Louis area, many companies are taking extra precautions for those who have to work outdoors.

The heat is on and now crews are dealing with the heat and trying to get roadwork done at the same time during this summer construction season.

MoDOT officials say they are always careful about work conditions in both the heat and cold. They send out warnings before crews hit the road telling workers how to recognize the signs of heatstroke.

There are between 40 to 50 road crews out at any given time and many of the crews are working more during the night and evening hours.
