ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – A former St. Louis police officer charged with first degree murder is out of jail tonight. This is a photo taken by our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as Stockley shares a brief moment with his mother after being released Wednesday afternoon.

The St. Louis Police Officers Association paid his $1 million dollar bond.   Prosecutors say Stockley was on duty when he shot and killed Anthony Smith back in 2011.

They say during the chase Stockley can be heard telling his partner he was going to kill Smith.

Jeff Roorda with the St. Louis Police Officers Association supports the release.

A judge had previously ordered the ex-cop to be held without bond.

Stockley will be closely monitored and must follow certain conditions while out on bond.
