ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - You may be seeing drones over St. Louis homes over the next few months. State Farm Insurance has announced that they will be testing Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) technology to conduct roof inspections. They say the drones as an additional tool to assess damage in communities affected by catastrophic events.

State Farm received FAA permission to operate the drones for commercial use in 2015. Aerial roof inspection test flights began in Georgia this past April and will continue into June. Recent severe weather in Missouri and Nebraska have expanded the tests into St. Louis, MO and Lincoln, NE.

State Farm says they will only test an area if building owners have consented to participate.
