BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, MO (KPLR) – The Major Case Squad has been called in on two separate overnight murders- one in Bellefontaine Neighbors, the other in Wellston.

Some 20 major case detectives are on each case. Authorities say although both killings happened around the same time they do not appear to be connected.

The murder in Bellefontaine Neighbors happened about 12:45 a.m. Thursday. Police are identifying the victim in that case as 29-year-old Jerome Keith Williams. Investigators believe Williams was shot once on Kilgore Drive between Coburg Lands and Ashbrook. He made it to a nearby home for help.

Williams was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He lived just a couple of blocks away from where he was shot. Police do not believe the shooting was random.

Investigators tell us so far they have no suspects but they do have one person who is cooperating with them.

The other Major Case Squad investigation is developing after shots were fired into a home on Wellsmar in Wellston. We’re told around 12:30 a.m., several shots were fired into a home.

Tanya M. Martin, 33, was hit by a bullet. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Authorities say the woman was visiting someone at the home and did not live there. Martin lived on Ville Donna Court in Hazelwood.

We’re told there were several other people in the home including children but nobody else was hit.

So far no suspects in that case either.
