ST. CHARLES, MO (KPLR) - There are some major lane closures this weekend on I- 70 in St. Charles.

Right in the middle of all of the construction Holt high school and Timberland high school have graduations at the St. Charles Family Arena.

The closures along I- 70 are part of work to build a new interchange at Fairgrounds Road and knock down the old Fairgrounds Road Bridge.

In order to do this work crews have completely shut down 70 eastbound between highway 94 and 5th street and only one westbound lane of that same stretch remains open.

In the midst of all this construction hundreds of seniors are also trying to receive their diploma.

Parents and graduates started arriving two hours before graduation to make sure they didn’t miss a moment.

Many parents say they took Highway 364 to get to the arena and did not run into any delays or traffic backups.
