FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL (KPLR) - Area Major Case Squad detectives have an unusual murder case on their hands this week. It revolves around an attempted robbery of a Fairview Heights man. One of the suspects in the Tuesday night robbery was shot multiple times in a gunfight at the intended victim's Ashley Drive Apartments; he later died. Police identified him as 26-year-old Sean J. Redd of Washington Park.

A second suspect is in custody and was questioned on Wednesday. As of 7 pm authorities were looking for a third man who might have been involved.

The deputy commander of the Major Case Squad Lieutenant Michael Hoguet said the targeted victim was shot once, taken to a hospital and treated and released. He is now helping detectives investigating the case.

Hoguet assured citizens all the individuals involved knew each other and this was not a random crime. He said it began as a fight and then guns were drawn and shots fired about 10 pm Tuesday.

Detectives hope to have their investigation wrapped up by Friday.
