GODFREY, IL (KPLR) - On Tuesday, Hope Animal Rescue received a call from Alton Animal Control about an abandoned dog found at an empty home in the 1000 block of Brown. Crews rescued an 8-month-old pit bull mix named Malu chained to a dog house. Malu was abandoned for three weeks and was 30 pounds under weight. A neighbor watched and fed the dog then called police when the owners didn`t came back. Veterinarians at Daniel Randall Animal Clinic say Malu is resilient and the healing process is underway.

Rescue crews are hoping to get Malu well enough to go up for adoption, but the process can take up to 3 months to complete. Doctors are using IV`s, antibiotics and other medicine for treatment.

Hope Animal Rescue takes in more than 400 dogs every year.  Alton police are still investigating the case.
