ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - A hotline call concerning a Catholic school teacher’s intersections with a student has led to a police investigation.

St. Joan of Arc educates close to 200 youngsters from preschool through eighth grade.

In a letter to parents, school authorities said the Missouri Department of Social Services is investigating the matter.

A spokesman with the Archdiocese of St. Louis said it conducts background checks on school employees and requires educators and others to take a class called 'Protecting God’s Children.' The archdiocese’s code of ethical conduct also says, “Private messages between an adult and a child must be avoided.”

The teacher in question has not been charged with a crime.

Authorities said the investigation will take several more days to complete.
