Woman carjacked near Washington University north campus; suspect arrested

UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KPLR) – The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged a 17-year-old in connection with an armed carjacking Friday in University City.

According Detective Lieutenant Fredrick Lemons II, a spokesman for the University City Police Department, the carjacking took place after 6 p.m. in the 6200 block of Clemens Avenue. The victim told police a teenager in a red-hooded sweatshirt approached her with a gun and stole her Ford Taurus.

Police located the suspect in the stolen vehicle driving north on Skinker Boulevard and gave chase. The suspect crashed in the area of Lucas and Hunt Road and Echo Park Drive. The suspect then tried running away from the crash, but dropped a loaded .32 caliber handgun along the way, Lemons said.

Officers finally caught up to the suspect in the 7000 block of Myron in Velda City and arrested him. During a search, police found .32 caliber rounds in the suspect’s pocket.

The suspect, identified as Raterrell Gray, was charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, stealing a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest. He remains jailed on $115,000 cash-only bond.
