WASHINGTON, MO (KPLR) – Police in Washington, Missouri believe they’ve discovered the remains of a man who disappeared approximately 10 months ago.

On May 31, 2015, officers with the Washington Police Department received a missing person’s report from the girlfriend of Daniel Day.

The woman told police Day was not at their residence when she came home from work. He’d left behind his cellphone, keys, and wallet. The only item he had taken with him was a handgun.

Police searched areas Day was known to frequent but could not locate him. Day’s family and friends also went looking for him but had no luck.

On the afternoon of March 14, 2016, a young woman discovered skeletal remains and a handgun in a wooded area behind her grandparents’ home near East Rose Lane in Washington.

The clothing found with the remains was consistent with clothes Day was last seen wearing. Police said the handgun at the scene was registered to Daniel Day.

Investigators believe the remains are of Day, but the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office will make the final ruling. Day’s family has been notified of the discovery.

Police do not suspect foul play.
