ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - A 39-year-old man who told police he consumed 90 Xanax pills before a weekend crime spree is locked up on a $75,000 cash-only bond in Jefferson County.

John Cullen Jr. left behind a series of clues that law enforcement used to link him to three stolen vehicle incidents. The victim of a theft in St Louis City on Wednesday said she, too, found a clue that led her to Cullen.

Cassidy Dobson found a stranger's cell phone in her car after someone stole hundreds of dollars of children's clothes from her vehicle. It was parked on a lot near Manchester and McCausland. She copied a photo of a man from the cellphone. Then she and friends circulated that photo on Internet group sites; particularly buy, sell, and trade sites. They posted the information on Thursday and, within an hour, the man had been identified. St. Louis City police are still investigating that theft case, but Dobson is relieved the man she believes stole from her is now behind bars.

She had praise for the use of social media Thursday to identify potential suspects.

"I don't think you could get it done any other way,” Dobson said. “Social media made it so much easier and quicker.”
