ALTON, IL (KPLR) - Investigators have discovered a red car they say was involved in the murder 11-year-old Romell Jones. The vehicle was found Wednesday afternoon and towed to the Alton Police Department for processing.

The shooting took place on Monday at the Acorn Street at the Alton Acres Housing Authority. It appears the shots came from the direction of a car passing through the housing complex. There was no evidence to suggest the child was a target.

A teen carried the 11-year-old to the complex’s recreation center. Jones was rushed to the hospital with a single gunshot wound to the chest, but was pronounced dead.

Police say they have significant developments in this case. They are holding a press conference at 4pm Thursday to announce details.
