ALTON, IL (KPLR) – Prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old in connection with the drive-by murder of an 11-year-old at a local public housing complex, the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis said Thursday.

The shooting took place Monday evening on Acorn Street at the Alton Acres housing authority. The victim, Romell Jones, was struck once in the chest and taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital, where he later died.

Within days, investigators took Ta’Mon Ford into custody for the shooting. Ford was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

At a news conference Thursday afternoon, investigators with the Major Case Squad would only say the shooting occurred as a result of an online dispute between groups. Jones was not involved in the dispute in any way.
