EUREKA, MO (KPLR) – It’s hard for Eureka Mayor Kevin Coffey to look as the heart of his city has flooded.
The rising Meramec River forced many businesses and homes to be evacuated and prompted several daring rescues. Business owners had hoped their sandbagging efforts would protect their buildings from ruin, but the unfortunate reality is sinking in.
The mayor said city managers are expecting the water will start to recede within the next eight hours. From there, the city will schedule clean-up missions in about 36 hours, requiring hundreds of volunteers.
