ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)-An underground explosion overnight is creating issues for drivers on a busy south St. Louis street. Ameren Missouri says a faulty cable caused what’s called an electrical arc to happen underground at Chippewa and Childress around 1:30am Sunday. The resulting explosion buckled the street above.
Ameren says about 200 customers were out of power for a time but all of the electricity has been restored. No one was injured.
St. Louis Police have taken Chippewa between Childress and Watson down to one lane each way until repairs can be made.
The cause for the incident is unclear but it could be weather related.
