ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - A divorced couple's fight over frozen embryos may be taken up by the Missouri Court of Appeals.

The Missouri Right to Life group held a news conference in downtown St. Louis Wednesday announcing an amicus brief had been filed with the court which asks a judge to hear the case. If accepted, it would be the first time the court will address such an issue.

Missouri Right to Life wants to present scientific information that supports its claim that the frozen embryos are living human beings and state law recognizes human life begins at fertilization.

Opponents say the assertion that embryos are human beings entitled to constitutional protection is wrong. It could be months before the appellate court decides whether to hear the case.
