Relic of St. Maria Goretti coming to Belleville Oct. 19

ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Saint Maria Goretti was born into poverty in Italy on this day in 1890. She was murdered at the age of 11. She is the Catholic Church's patron saint of youth, purity and rape victims and the youngest saint ever.

It's a national tour that arrives at Belleville's Cathedral of St. Peter Monday.

Thousands are expected to view the relic inside of a glass-sided coffin.

Monsignor John Myler joins us on FOX 2 News in the Morning with how Belleville's Cathedral was chosen as one of the stops.

The relic of St. Maria Goretti, the pilgrimage to the United States, and the stop in Belleville at the Cathedral of St. Peter will take place on October 19th. The public veneration of St. Maria begins at 7 a.m. with a solemn Mass celebrated in St. Maria`s honor at 7 p.m.

The public veneration ends at 11 p.m.
