Major case squad investigating homicide in Madison, IL

MADISON, IL (KPLR) - The Major Case Squad has been activated after a man is found shot to death in a pickup truck in Madison, Illinois.

The victim, 44-year-old Mitchell Coleman of East St. Louis, was found early Wednesday afternoon in the driver`s side of a black Chevy truck parked in the 1000 block of Washington Avenue in Madison.

It appears the killer fired at him from outside the passenger window.

Police are not saying how many times the victim was hit, but the vehicle was hit at least a half dozen times.

A large crowd quickly built and when it came time to remove the body from the truck family members and friends in the crowd went into an emotional frenzy.

A man who identified himself to News11 as a friend of the victim says he lived in Washington Park, but frequently hung out with friends in the neighborhood where he was killed.

The friend describes the man as being a father who was recently honored for running a bookbag giveaway at the start of the school year.
