ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)- Defense Secretary Ash Carter will travel to St. Louis today to tour Boeing`s campus. He will thank workers at the facility for their contributions to keeping the nation safe.
One Carter`s big focuses while in office so far has been pushing the U.S. military forward technologically. Upon arrival, he`ll meet with some of the company`s leadership and take a tour of the facility. The visit will highlight some of the many ways private technology firms can work with the department.
At Boeing they often collaborate with the government to solve challenges the military faces on the front-line. Today`s talks will also include some of the work that`s in progress including self-driving cars and trucks and advanced cyber communications.
Secretary Carter believes the work being done is important and that the country, as well as Europe and the Middle East, rely on these innovations birthed right here in St. Louis.
Officials at Boeing say to expect the secretary to push for 'budget certainty' in Washington, arguing the Department of Defense U.S. contractors need surety to move forward with many of these major projects.
