FERGUSON, MO (KPLR) – The man who allegedly fired multiple rounds of gunfire at police Sunday night in critical condition at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

A large group of family members stood outside the hospital for hours this morning, eager for an update. I just spoke with 18 year-old Tyrone Harris’s father. He and other family members are still not allowed inside the hospital. County police is strictly controlling visitation.

Tyrone Harris, Sr. says hospital officials called him and told him his son’s condition hasn’t changed. They’re waiting for swelling to go down before they continue surgery. From what his father tells me, it appears Harris was shot several times, impacting his spine, chest and kidney.

According to a hospital spokesperson, the hospital is not permitted to give media direct updates, since Harris is a “victim of violence.”

Harris’s family says the 18-year-old just graduated Normandy high school, and was a classmate and friend of Michael Brown.

Harris’s girlfriend, Quenesha Coley, says the two were together in Ferguson respects to Michael Brown when things turned chaotic. Shots rang out at around 11pm.

Coley says they were just trying to get back to their car, parked near where the police were. She says they were trying to take cover, and Harris was running, when he was shot by police.

“I feel horrible because we were there for the memorial of Michael Brown and it turned into something else.” said Quenesha Coley.

“Who would want their child shot? I don’t like my child laying in there, and you don’t know the outcome of the situation until it’s over” said Tyrone Harris.

Harris’s grandmother and aunt say he’s a good kid who’d never fire shots at police. Meanwhile, police did say Harris fired multiple shots at them, and recovered a stolen firearm at the scene.
