FENTON, MO (KPLR) - Could a plan to build a hockey haven in Fenton be on hold?

City leaders and a developer met Thursday night to discuss the fate of the project, which would see an arena built at the site of the old Chrysler plant.

Questions were raised about financial troubles plaguing the St. Charles Family Arena, as well as the ongoing drama regarding the future of Rams football in St. Louis.

The public hearing brought praise for the concept of a Fenton arena, surrounded by retail, restaurants, and a hotel. However, the city council was not convinced a small town like Fenton should own and operate such a facility. A vote effectively delayed any decision because several council members were absent and others abstained.

The developers insist there are ways to finance this project without making taxpayers responsible if the development fails to meet its financial obligations.

Council members remain unconvinced.
