WILDWOOD, MO (KTVI) - A mother and her adult son are found dead in Wildwood. Police are calling it a murder suicide. Both bodies were found shortly after 8pm Thursday at a home in the 4600 block of Fox Crest Drive.

A neighbor called police when she entered the home last night and found the homeowner Janet Scherrer, 54, unresponsive. When St. Louis County Police arrived they also found the body of her 23-year-old son Eric Scherrer. Both suffered gunshot wounds.

Investigators determined the son first shot his mother and then took his own life. Another neighbor we spoke with actually heard a gun shot around 7:30pm but didn't think anything about it. She says it's a very rural area where she sometimes there's gunfire.

"I was home alone and it was very scary. At the time I didn't know what it was. And when I did here what it was... It's just crazy to think that are little country town out here is now turned into something you only here about in the movies." said neighbor Paige Colb.

County police say the son was living at the home. Investigators say they have no reports of trouble at the home.
