ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI ( KPLR)-This Mother's Day weekend a Missouri mother will remember her son killed by a drunk driver . The mother has joined forces with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in the fight to keep drunk drivers off the road.
The number of drunk driving fatalities have declined since Mothers Against Drunk Driving formed , but thousands still die each year.
29- year old David Weinstein was killed by a drunk driver on Highway 370 in Missouri in May of 2011. His mother says David was killed two days after Mother's Day and just three days before his 30th birthday . "He was my son ,he was a brother, he was an uncle, but most importantly, he was also a father ,and now my granddaughter does not have a father, said Deborah Weinstein.
In honor of David's memory ,his family each year join forces with MADD by hosting a 5 -K Run -Walk called "Walk Like MADD. Deborah says the event helps raise the awareness in the fight to keep drunk drivers off the road." We are not against drinking, we are against drinking then someone deciding to get in a car and drive. With David being killed on Mother's Day that's the last day I saw him. It's even more difficult .Therefore I choose to do the walk in May because it gets me through those hard times-.
MADD organizers say Walk Like MADD is your chance to do something about drunk driving in our community. This year, thousands of people in over 60 cities around the nation will participate in 5k events to eliminate drunk driving from our roadways.
You can help MADD eliminate drunk driving by signing up for a Walk Like MADD as a walker, team captain, or volunteer. You can even be involved without attending the event by signing up as a virtual walker or making a donation to another walker or team.
The Run -Walk will be held Sunday, May 17th at Creve Coeur Park from 4:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.
