WELLSTON, MO (KPLR) – It’s been violent couple of days near the Metro train station in Wellston.

Police confirmed a shooting in the parking lot late Monday night was followed by a triple shooting down the street around Tuesday afternoon.

Police gave this account of the Monday night shooting: two men got off a train Monday night, got into an argument in the parking lot, and one shot the other in the hand.

Then, around 3:30pm Tuesday, Metro riders heard gunfire again.

Police and a witness who was standing with the victims when the gunfire rang out gave this account: about 12 students were standing near the gate of the Met Center job training campus after their classes; 4 young men approached, one with a gun; the gunman challenged a student to a fight; when that student refused, the gunman opened fire and hit three students; they ran for their lives and got as far as the train station.

“It`s scary out here. It`s dangerous. It`s real dangerous. We need to have more security out here,” said witness Maurice Ayuso.

The gunman ran away through a field, police said.

The three victims were released from a hospital Tuesday night.

The victim from Monday night’s shooting was not seriously hurt.

Investigators had strong leads on suspects in both cases. They urged anyone else with information to call Wellston Police at 314-553-8010.
