UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KTVI) – A man suspected of targeting women last week in strong-arm robberies has been arrested.

Captain Michael Ransom of the University City Police Department said Jaquese North was taken into custody late Saturday afternoon at a park near Lilac Avenue and Interstate 270.

North is accused of robbing one woman Wednesday afternoon in St. Louis, near Skinker and Delmar, and a second woman Friday morning in University City.

In the first incident, police said the victim was walking south on Skinker talking on her cell phone. A man struck her in the face, grabbed her cell phone and ran down an alley. The woman was bruised on the cheek, but refused medical treatment.

On Friday morning, police said the same man struck again, robbing a woman near Melville and Kingsbury. The victim was crossing the footbridge over Forest Park Parkway and felt someone was following her. She said the suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her and demanded money. She gave him her cash and he ran away.

North is charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and is in custody on $100,000 cash-only bond.

Ransom said North also confessed to a sexual assault that occurred March 3 near Trinity and Washington. Additional charges are expected to be filed in that investigation.
