WARRENTON, MO (KPLR) - About 100 people are returning to their homes after being evacuated because of a gas leak in Warrenton late Monday morning.  Workers for the city of Warrenton were cleaning a sewer when they hit a gas line in the area of Cherry and Flora, not far off Highway 47.  They were worried that natural gas was following sewer pipes into area homes.  They ordered an evacuation to clear the area for safety.

The Warrenton Fire Department went house to house to make sure everyone was out. Highway 47 was closed from Veterans Memorial Parkway to Booneslick for a time.

The all-clear was giving around 2:40pm. Ameren MO crews will be going back to the evacuated homes to turn gas service back on.
