ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- A photograph of a St. Louis police officer's blood soaked shirt moved many St. Louisans this week. The blood was from a six-year-boy Officer Don Re rushed to the hospital after a shooting.
The child, Marcus Johnson, was riding in a minivan full of children and adults after leaving O'Fallon Park Wednesday night. Police say a car pulled up alongside the minivan on West Florissant and someone inside opened fire. A 15-year-old and a 69-year-old man in the minivan were also shot. Marcus' father grabbed a gun, returned fire and called police.
St. Louis Police Officer Re arrived before paramedics. The boy was critical, so the officer placed him in his car and raced to the hospital in hopes of saving the child's life.
Officer Re wrote in his blog that "his shirt said it all."
The little boys heart, so close to the officers own heart left this horrific reminder on his blood stained uniform.
