PINE LAWN, MO (KPLR)- Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in Pine Lawn. The shooting happened around 7p.m. Sunday night near the intersection of Creston and Stillwell. Authorities say a Pine Lawn officer was working a secondary job at Skate King when he heard multiple gunshots from across the street. The officer left his secondary job and proceeded toward the intersection where he heard more gunshots, car tires screeching and saw a vehicle fleeing from the middle of the block towards him. The officer noticed the glass was shot out of the rear driver’s side window.
The officer heard a woman screaming, and as he continued to walk up the street, he was confronted by Tyreece Young, 17, of the 6200 block of Canna Drive. The officer announced he is a police officer and Young immediately pointed a silver handgun at him.
In fear for his life, the officer fired at Young twice.
Young turned and ran to a gray Ford Taurus and entered the passenger front side of the vehicle. That vehicle then made a u-turn and quickly fled from the scene. It is not believed that either of the two shots fired by the Pine Lawn Officer struck Young.
Authorities recovered the two shell casings from what is believed to be the officer's duty weapon. The St. Louis County Police Department's Crime Scene Unit also located multiple shell casings from an unknown 9mm weapon at the scene.
Police have not revealed if the officer was in uniform.
The suspect has been identified as Tyreece Young, 17, of the 6200 block of Canna Drive. He is a black male, 5’9" tall, 150 pounds.
